The Master’s program in film and media with a focus on documentary processes is aimed at those who want to specialize and deepen your knowledge in documentary processes. The program is research preparatory and consists of two years of full-time studies at the advanced level.
Within the field of documentary processes, for example, documentary makers, artists and journalists can deepen and develop their knowledge of contemporary reality narrative in both theory and practice. The emphasis is on investigating and deepening the own artistic processes in a personal narrative and independently reflecting and formulating their work in the form of documented issues and analyzes. Documentary processes contribute to the development of ideas and practices in various aspects of artistic exploration and storytelling.
Masters program in film and media focusing on documentary processes
The Master’s program in film and media is an in-depth and research-preparatory education with a common program structure for all fields. In the education theory courses, students are introduced to different perspectives on knowledge, theory, reflection and artistic research methods.
The education also has specialization-specific method courses. As a master’s student in documentary processes, you take part in current artistic research and immerse yourself in processes and methods that are relevant to your artistic practice. Alongside a continuous artistic development work, you will discuss artistic courage, idea work and ethical approach, put your own practice in relation to others, study different artistic methods and formulate your own. Critically reflective gives you a foundation for a deeper understanding of your own practical work and your ambition to develop the art of art. The studies are largely conducted individually.
The insights and knowledge that you acquire in the orientation-specific method courses are applied and then explored further in lab courses. You are looking for your own tone, presence and expression. The training uses experimentation and reflection as a method for developing new thoughts in the work and the depiction of reality and ideas around documentary expressions.
During the course, you get many opportunities for meetings over traditional occupational boundaries, for example through elective courses that are common to the institutions of the university. Each student here identifies their need for additional knowledge.
