BA in Digital Animation:
This course provides basic training and interdisciplinary basic and applied theoretical knowledge in the areas of Communication, Arts and Design and Multimedia Computing and Communication. This course thus seeks to meet the basic training needs of future professionals in order to correct the areas of professional development and production for animation, digital design, 3D visualization, film, video and multimedia communication. The course consists of 6 semesters. Students attend courses ranging from Model Drawing to Digital Illustration, from Two-Dimensional Animation Technologies to Editing and Post-Production for Video, while in the last two semesters they attend a project seminar and two workshops on directing animation.
BA in Film, Video and Multimedia Communication:
The overall objective of a degree in Film, Video and Multimedia Communication is to promote training that combines rigorous theoretical training with an interdisciplinary approach applied to their specialist fields. Throughout their course the students are constantly encouraged to practice technological and artistic experimentation, with the ultimate goal of training individuals who are technologically competent, as well as artistically and conceptually creative.
This degree also aims to train professionals in the areas of production and filmmaking, television production and multimedia, to a conceptual level, and a more experimental level, as well as the acquisition of generic elementary skills and basic areas of communication in sciences, arts and design and information systems, computing and multimedia communication.
BA in Sound Science and Technology:
The culture of sound has matured in the last few years. All over Europe and in the United States study cycles and research centres are being established with the objective of studying sound, its qualities and expressions.
ULHT and the School of Communication, Arts and Information Technology (SCAIT) (“Escola de Comunicação, Artes e Tecnologias da Informação” – “ECATI”) also wanted to join the golden years of sound, merging the technological, communication and artistic areas that have undergone an ongoing increase since the end of the last decade into the same licentiate degree.
The curricular structure of this new course is organized in such a way as to accommodate both old and new subjects, as well as unite the arts of sound to recording technologies, reproduction, production and sound synthesis.
Subjected in urban life to a territory ruled by sound and noise, this study cycle aims to contribute to an understanding of the object sound of in daily life, recovering from history that which Man owes to the sense of hearing.
This licentiate degree favours the place of skills, knowledge and innovation in a close association with the cultural industries, research and the media.
BA in Photography:
This licentiate degree is organically integrated in the School of Communication, Arts and Information Technology (SCAIT) (“Escola de Comunicação, Artes e Tecnologias da Informação” – “ECATI”) of the above mentioned University and its main objective is to provide specialized and vocational theoretical and practical training, of a technological and artistic nature in the field of photography.
Thus the general pedagogic objective of the first cycle course in photography is to endorse a training project that combines a strict theoretical component with an interdisciplinary preparation that is eminently applied in its specialized areas. Throughout the course, the students will be constantly encouraged to experiment with technological and artistic aspects. The ultimate goal of this course is to train individuals that are technologically competent, as well as conceptually and artistically creative. Amongst the specialized teaching staff, we count with the collaboration of the following photographers Daniel BLAUFUKS, Paulo CATRICA, António Júlio DUARTE, Daniel MALHÃO, Luis PAVÃO.
BA in Multimedia aAplications and Videogames:
The main goal of this undergraduate degree is to provide theoretical and practical training of a specialized technological and artistic nature, with an orientation towards professional practice, in the areas of animation, digital games, video, multimedia communication and the interactive arts.
1. to promote broad-band elementary and interdisciplinary training that integrates theoretical and applied knowledge in the scientific areas of this undergraduate degree.
2 – to adapt the training profile and the syllabus of the curricular units to the actual characteristics and needs of the Portuguese and European labour market in this sector.
3 – to provide the competencies necessary for the future professional practice and the continuation of scientific studies in more advanced cycles of learning.
4 – to reinforce the course’s international dimension and its integration in the European space for higher education.
Master’s Film Studies:
The MA in Film Studies is part of the School of Communication Sciences, Arts and Information Technology in the fields of Film Studies, configuring it as 2nd cycle integrated in the follow-up for students qualified with a degree in Cinema, Video and Multimedia Communication, or another equivalent degree. In addition, the course is intended for all professionals wishing to develop their skills in the areas of production and filmmaking.
This Master’s course is oriented towards the actual producing and directing of film projects within an environment of critical and theoretical reflection. The entire course is thus based on a project methodology that is developed throughout the course, where students are invited to:
Kino Eyes:
KEM is an original study programme that seeks to promote new teaching and learning opportunities for learners and teachers in the areas of fiction film making and creativity studies. This two year MA programme is a brand-new highly intensive fiction film making masters degree supported by ERASMUS+. The programme takes the form of four semesters’ teaching, along with a summer school. The teaching is unique for a film making MA in that it is split between three different film schools in three different European states: Lusófona University in Lisbon, Portugal, Screen Academy Scotland in Edinburgh/ Napier University, UK, and the Baltic Film and Media School in Tallinn, Estonia. The teaching in each campus reflects the strengths of the staff and educational history of each school, so providing each specialist student with a choice of the best possible options for learning. Each school has a substantial track record teaching masters film-making courses.
DocNomads:
DOC NOMADS was started, because we felt there was an opportunity to start something completely new. We thought there was a need for an international documentary film Masters. Doc Nomads is the first Erasmus Mundus in the Arts. Very often an EM is no more than a slight adaptation or shuffle of existing programs. But from the very start, we insisted on selecting a small group and focusing on practice with personal coaching.
The advantage of our three countries is that they are very complementary. East, West Southern Europe with three totally different cultures and cinematographic backgrounds. Three small countries that are aware of being small. Our students stay six months in each country — a short time, but long enough to meet people and build up a network.
