Post Producers are a critical part of the unscripted television story-telling team. Working within the Postproduction unit, Post Producers take rushes and mould them into a narrative structure. The role can include: creating paper edit script, writing voice over, using editing software to create story timelines, proposing music, devising pick-ups for the field, working closely with an editor, liaising with supervisors and other post producers, accommodating network changes and understanding the roles of edit assistants, online editors and graphics.
Unscripted television continues to be a huge and diverse part of the Australian Industry, covering a range of genres including observational documentary, factual, reality, lifestyle and entertainment, unscripted television. It is one of the best areas of the industry in which to find consistent and exciting work. Post Producers with the right set of skills are in high demand.
This is a practical course for those with some experience in the industry. Field Producers, Associate Producers and Researchers who want to ramp up their career will all benefit from this course. Also Editing Assistants or Editors who wish to improve their storytelling and scriptwriting skills would benefit. It is NOT suitable for those without TV Industry or documentary making experience.
You do not need to have Avid Editing experience to do this course, as we will be teaching “the basics”. The course (and the actual role of Post Producer) is very computer-centric however, so an aptitude for technology is important.
This course is only open to students aged 18+.
For entry level Avid Media Composer skills, we also have a two-day Editing with Avid Fundamentals course. If you are more interested in developing field skills look at our TV Shooter Producer Industry Certificate.
