The editing room is the place where the script is finished. Ultimately, it is decided here how the shot material is assembled to tell the story that is to be told: why this attitude and not that, why now and not later, what does the picture tell, what is the sound, the sounds, the music ? Editing is rhythm, content and structure. Those who love the material will recognize its possibilities and will find the finished film in it. (Michael Hudecek)
The master’s degree deepens the knowledge acquired in the bachelor’s degree through an intensive practical and scientific examination of film editing and the arts and techniques that flow together in this professional field. Excursions and guest lectures increase contact with the film industry. More complex internships lead to cooperation with external post-production service providers (e.g. recording studios) and underline the importance of the cutting room as a communication hub for post-production. In this way, the gradual establishment of students in the professional world is promoted in the same way as it is analyzed in the course of studies and is just as important for the successful pursuit of the profession as the completion of the master’s degree.
The subject-specific training takes place on the basis of project-related individual support (image editing and sound design) as well as lectures and seminars. The development of optical and acoustic memory, the ability to combine, dramaturgical perception, thinking and storytelling, as well as rhythm and musicality are in the foreground – according to the requirements of the respective project.
