The Department of Film and Media is developing a new master’s program with many different orientations, with the planned start of the autumn term 2020 and 2021. See the respective orientation page for more information.
The Master’s program in film and media with the three profiles; “Narrative Space – Production design for film and media”, “The Art of Impact” and “Documentary processes”, is aimed at those who are active in art, stage, film and media and want to broaden and deepen your knowledge. Here you can read about the content, the layout and how to apply for the program.
The master’s program in film and media is research preparation and consists of two years of full-time studies at the advanced level, where you choose to study one of the three profiles. You take part in current research in film and media and immerse yourself in the processes and methods that are relevant to your artistic practice. You work theoretically and practically and perform production exercises. The program is led by university professors and lecturers. We also collaborate with other universities both nationally and internationally.
The master’s program in film and media started with three profiles last autumn 2018:

The The Art of Impact profile is an international and interdisciplinary education for those who want to develop in their professional role, critically reflect on their own and others’ artistic approaches and in seminar form and lab with the support of new technology develop and expand our subjects. We have a strong focus on storytelling and audience, distribution and participation.
Documentary processes
The profile Documentary processes is aimed at documentary makers, artists and journalists who want to deepen and develop their knowledge in the contemporary reality story in theory and practice.
The Master’s program in film and media
The Master’s program in film and media consists of lectures, seminars, production work, trips and study visits. Along with ongoing practical work, you will discuss artistic courage and ethical approaches, put your own practice in relation to others, study different artistic methods and formulate your own.
The language of instruction is English. Some adaptations of the language can be made to the student group so that, for example, Swedish can be used in certain situations during the education. In the written parts of the course, the student can usually choose between writing in English or Swedish.
Part of the education consists of compulsory elements that are common to all students regardless of profile.
The course Practical Reflection of Knowledge provides the student with the tools to critically review and formulate their own and others’ artistic creation through an in-depth study of the philosophical and theoretical foundations of the artistic knowledge area.
Another part of the program consists of Elective courses. The student here identifies his need for further knowledge and takes responsibility for his knowledge development.
The independent work includes the corresponding work of a semester. The starting point for the work is a research question, for example a study in an artistic method or the examination of an artistic process. The work is individual and is presented in the form of examples of practical work and written text.
In the course Production, the student will formulate and solve advanced artistic and design problems, show ability for experiments in storytelling and / or design, and plan and carry out qualified artistic assignments within given time frames.
