The master program “Creating a new opera” is for those who want to help shape the opera’s future. In a meeting with students from different disciplines, you will work together and laboratory to develop methods and visions for innovative opera.
Creating a new opera is a collaboration between Stockholm University of Art (the Institutions of Performing Arts and Opera) and the Royal. College of Music. The program will gather students from various disciplines in opera, music and performing arts and is aimed at those who want to take opera into the future. You can be a stage designer, playwright / librettist, costume designer, opera singer, light designer, mask and wig designer, instrumentalist, composer and director but do not necessarily have worked with opera before.
Under the guidance of professors and lecturers from the various institutions and skills from outside, you will develop collaborative methods, and also sharpen your own ability to creatively contribute to the creation of a new opera. In the program you will work both practically and theoretically with opera through labs and seminars. The practical elements will take place in collaborative forms and are characterized by a non-hierarchical approach that emphasizes the exchange of knowledge between the various disciplines. The program aims to broaden the concept of what opera and performing arts could be. As an educational program at the advanced level, it is research preparatory.
