The course Communitas is aimed at those who want to work with art and cultural projects and artistic expressions and methods in participatory art and culture / Community art. The course is given in collaboration with Bibu and Danscentrum Syd in Skåne and is given remotely with some physical meetings in Malmö on Danscentrum Syd and at Bibu in Helsingborg .
Many artists nowadays choose to work outside classical scenery, theaters, museums and galleries as residential areas, local associations and leisure clubs become new venues. These more social and interactive art projects follow a number of questions and approaches. How do you invite people to join an art project? What ethical positions are important to consider? How do you as a producer or administrator create a good breeding ground for artists who want to work in this way? What is community dance and social art, and what are the potentials and pitfalls? Are there any special questions that should be asked when the target group is children and young people? There are some questions that we will work on during the course.
The course Communitas offers knowledge and insight into and about artistic projects and processes, as well as how they relate to political and social contexts. The course also offers the opportunity to work with methods and strategies that are based on artistic expressions with social and / or interactive dimensions and that work outside the normative format and audience discourse of the stage room. During the course, we highlight community performing arts, both as a concept and from a historical perspective, and develop knowledge and ability to work interactively as well as navigate ethically with different civic groups, children and young people are some of them.
